Day 25 of #40to40 is about #BATNA – Best Alternative to the Negotiated Agreement.
Also known as your Plan B. If you don’t have any other plans or options you’re stuck because you are dependent on the other party and you will likely pay the toll.
If you DO have other options then you have leverage. You have the knowledge that you can walk away from this #negotiation and are less likely to have to do something foolish.
Will your BATNA be as good as the deal you’re negotiating right now? Probably not, otherwise you wouldn’t be attempting this one. But at least you know your world won’t fall apart if this deal falls through.
Build as many #options as possible – fall in love with 3 houses instead of one – to create #power.
And consider how you can weaken THEIR BATNA…
