Day 38 of #40to40 is another #EMAIL tip. This one is about how to close your emails.

Don’t assume that they’re just going to be fine with whatever you’ve written or proposed.

“Let me know your thoughts, ” is a lost opportunity for some momentum. Instead, ask a question to provoke engagement. The type of question can keep things productive such as “which elements did you like best?” or “when is the best time for us to discuss?”

Of course, options are also another great way to close: “which one sounds better, option A or B?”

It’s a type of assumptive close that isn’t so pushy but will likely get you some feedback to keep the conversation going instead of getting you ignored.

For day 38 here’s another tip for your emails, when you close that email. Don’t assume that they’re just going to be cool with anything that you said. If you finish with let me know your thoughts or you just make a proposal and say, best signed Fotini. Those are the things that you want to make sure that you engage people on, you need to get some type of confirmation or feedback on what it is that you’re doing. If you put it out there and assume that they’re good with it, you can end up in a lot of trouble. So when you complete an email, before you sign off, finish with a question, something like, what is the best time for us to discuss option A. Or, what is the thing that you like the most about this proposal or which are the elements that you want to begin with, and you’re actually forcing them into an assumptive close in some way. Another way to finish here is with options that I mentioned earlier, so do you prefer option A or option B, when’s the best time to discuss it. So finish with a question to force them to respond.
